HEARING LOSS & HYPERBARICS

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) can help with sudden hearing loss by increasing oxygen levels in the blood and tissues, which can improve blood flow and reduce inflammation in the inner ear, potentially leading to hearing recovery.

HOW HBOT CAN HELP

Increased Oxygen Supply:

HBOT involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber, which allows more oxygen to dissolve in the blood plasma and be delivered to the tissues, including the inner ear.

Improved Blood Flow:

Some cases of sudden hearing loss are caused by impaired blood flow to the inner ear, and HBOT can help improve this blood flow, potentially reversing some of the damage.

Reduced Inflammation and Swelling:

HBOT can help reduce inflammation and swelling in the inner ear, which can also contribute to hearing loss.

Stimulation of Stem Cells and Growth Factors:

HBOT may stimulate the release of growth factors and stem cells, which can help damaged hair cells and nerves in the inner ear to heal.

Early Intervention is Key:

Studies suggest that starting HBOT early in the course of sudden hearing loss can lead to better outcomes.

Combined with Steroids:

HBOT is often used in combination with steroids (either orally or intratympanically) to enhance hearing recovery.
